George W. Jenkins Memorial Scholarship (2018)

2018 George W. Jenkins Memorial Scholarship

Administered by the Polk Education Foundation

  • 2 scholarships of up to $2,500 each will be awarded for vocational or college courses
  • Students must be the child of a Publix Super Markets employee employed for at least six months prior to submitting this application. (Must note store # or corporate department for verification and attach a letter of confirmation from the Publix supervisor who oversees the employee).
  • Selections will be based on two things
    • Financial need (student’s SAR (student aid report) or parent’s 2017 W9’s or 2017 tax information showing adjusted gross income must be attached to the application.
    • The content of the general and additional essays required.

Polk State College Scholarships
  1. Polk State College Foundation Scholarships
    With a handful of exceptions, most scholarships offered through the Polk State College Foundation can be applied for using one application. The application, accessible at http://foundation.polk.edu/scholarships/ , is open now through March 15, 2018.This is currently our only application period each year for these scholarships, so we encourage any high school senior who might attend Polk State College in the fall to complete the application in order to see which scholarships s/he may qualify for.

 

  1. Public Service Scholarship Ambassadors (PSSA) ScholarshipsThis scholarship is one of the most prestigious and competitive that the College offers.  It is also one of the most valuable scholarships at Polk State College, as it pays for a full 60 credit hours (e.g. an Associate in Arts degree). Students apply for this scholarship in the spring of their junior year and then they are ambassadors beginning their senior year of high school. For consideration, students must submit the attached PSSA Scholarship application and all of the other requested items in the application packet no later than 5:00 p.m. on March 15, 2018.
Kathleen Lodge No 338 Free and Accepted Masons of Florida Scholarship

Kathleen Lodge No 338 Free and Accepted Masons of Florida will be awarding two $2,000.00 scholarships in 2018.  These scholarships will be awarded to two applicants from Kathleen or Lake Gibson High Schools; the two winners can both be from the same school  The scholarship can be used only for tuition or books and the applicant must be accepted to an accredited university or college, to be eligible.  The money will be transferred into the winning student’s account at their school. We are accepting only ten applications from each of the two high schools.

 

Students who wish to apply need to email their request to the Scholarship Chairman, James Finnegan at jimfinnegan@me.com and include their contact information with the request.  All applications will be received by email only.  The completed application must be received by May 30, 2018.

Latino Scholarship

The Scholarships and Diversity Office at the University of South Florida Foundation is looking for potential students, who have been admitted to USF, for our 2018-2019 Latino Scholarship. The application and eligibility requirements are listed below:

LATINO Application

  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Graduate from an accredited high school or community college in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Polk, Manatee, Pasco, Hernando, or Sarasota
  • Demonstrate financial need as documented by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  • Strong consideration will be given to students who are: fluent in Spanish; first generation in their family to attend college; from diverse ethnic background. 
  • Be an incoming freshman

This scholarship is for $2,000/year and is renewable for up to ten semesters.  The deadline for the application is Friday, April 6th; however, if a student shows sincere interest, we may be able to extend this for them.

The application deadline is April 20th.  There are 18- $1000 scholarships available for the Central Florida area.  Once a student clicks on the link, the site indicates Stone Gate Bank.  Centennial Bank acquired Stone Bank recently and will be offering the scholarship to several counties in Florida.  This is something Stone Gate Bank has done for a while.  We are sharing this across the CFL footprint.  Hopefully we will have more available next year.
