St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital By Brendan Berry
Mrs. Johnson and her LGHS French Club are back at it again, raising money for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. St. Jude, which was founded in 1962, is a pediatric treatment and research facility focused on children’s diseases, peculiarly Leukemia, and other cancers. The French Club does several things to raise money for the St. Jude organization.
Every year, the French Club take donations, hosts a car wash and, have a walk at Lake Hollingsworth. This year’s car wash will be Saturday, May 4th, at Aaron’s Rental, across the street from Steak ‘n Shake. The Le Cercle François will be there from 9 am to 12 pm, spinning signs and making cars shine.
The Spear stopped by to speak with Mrs. Johnson about why she chooses to give back to St. Jude every year. Her 15-year-old nephew, Tyler, was diagnosed with cancer and was only able to battle for 2 years before passing at 17. Johnson says, “Nobody should go through what a cancer patient goes through, so anything to find a cure, I will do.”
French Club President, Brendan Berry, also commented on the topic. He added that we are healthy enough to help, so why not? “No one has ever become poor by giving”. Berry, who got the jump on getting donations early, has already accumulated $270 and plans to keep increasing that amount with a fundraiser of his own at some point during 2019. The LGHS French Club pledges to take a stand against cancer, searching and, fighting for a cure.
