Let’s Stick To It by Astrid Diaz
Lake Gibson offers various sports for students to join. One of the newer sports that is offered is lacrosse. This will be the third year that this sport is offered here at Lake Gibson. Many people do not know what lacrosse is, or what it requires. Lacrosse is a team game that is played with both a lacrosse stick and ball. Players with the sticks head have to cradle, pass, catch, and shoot the ball into the net.
The spear was able to interview the head coach for Lake Gibson’s girls’ lacrosse team. Coach McSwain played four years of lacrosse in high school and spent two years playing club. McSwain has also coached two years of college and is preparing to coach the third season at Lg this year. When McSwain was asked what she is looking forward to this year, she replied saying “helping my returning players build skills to possibly become college athletes and teaching new players how the game is played.”
If you are interested in joining the team, open fields for both boys and girls will be held December 3, 5, 6, 10, and 12th. Open fields are not mandatory, but if you are a new player, they will help build your skills. Conditioning for this sport will be held January 14-25. Lastly, tryouts will be held January 28- February 1st. Joining this team will allow you to build relationships with your teammates and coaches, it will be a lot of fun being a part of the lacrosse team.
